Fairtrade Fortnight

2017

Selling Fairtrade snacks.

We wanted to make the school aware that whilst we are lucky and have lots of food, many people don’t so: Monday we sold Fairtrade snacks to Petroc and Keyne only, then the next day to Germanus and Piran. On the days the children were not allowed to buy a treat they did feel left out!

On Friday we had a perfect world and everyone was able to buy snacks.

The children began to appreciate what it felt like to not always have a choice and were able to start to understand that this is the case for many children all over the world, but on a daily basis

World Porridge Day

The Eco Team helped serve porridge on World Porridge day. We tried to imagine how it would feel to just have 1 bowl of porridge a day as your main meal. We looked at films of children getting Marys meals .

Most of us tried the porridge and liked it!

Recycle with Michael

Don't forget we now have a re-cycling bin for your unwanted clothes, shoes etc. in the car park. The clothes go to the Salvation Army and the school receives a payment based upon the weight of your contributions

Green Flag success!
Congratulations to everyone. We have successfully  been awarded the Green Flag for the second time!
The assessor was most impressed with the school and said:
"Well done St Germans School. It is hard to show just good this school is at doing whole school initiatives and activities related to sustainability issues. One has to be there talking to the Head and the children to fully appreciate their commitment to putting a 'green agenda' at the heart of the curriculum. There is no shortage of volunteers to carry out the tasks of the team and encourage all staff and pupils to take part and the enthusiasm of this team is exemplary  . Yours is one of the best Eco-Schools I have seen on my visits with absolutely no litter visible and with good systems in place to deal quickly with any problems. Please keep up the hard work!"
