Reading at our School

At St Germans Primary School we believe that reading is an integral part of the school curriculum and a fundamental life skill that impacts on all learning. Everything else depends on it and so we put in as much energy as possible to ensure that every child learns to read and enjoys reading.

We want every child to love reading and be enthusiastic and motivated readers who feel confident to be able to talk about books and authors. We ensure our children have access to a wide range of high-quality texts that are both challenging and enjoyable for all readers. Each year group has a box of specially selected classic books called The Reading Spine, which develop the children's imagination and equip them with rich and exciting vocabulary to use in all areas of their lives.

At St Germans Primary we have a well stocked library with a team of hard working Year 6 librarians who regularly  read books with the younger members of the school. Classes have the opportunity to visit the library every week and select books to take home and read for pleasure.
