Children's Wellbeing and Mental Health
As parents and carers, there are ways we can support children and young people to give them the best chance to stay mentally healthy. At St Germans Primary School, we have a range of options available in school to support children through emotionally challenging times.
Mrs Townsend is currently undertaking Senior Mental Health Lead (SMHL) training, which is a strategic role; this centres around directing staff and families to the most suitable support for their needs.
Lyndsey Wilde is our Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP). She comes to school on Monday afternoons and is able to work with children on a 1-1 basis to complete short-term interventions in relation to a specific area of need, such as sleep hygiene, self-esteem or social anxieties.
We have two Thrive practitioners in school - Miss Robertson and Mrs Townsend. Miss Robertson regularly works with children to provide emotional support in school. As part of their licencing requirements, both members of staff undertake regular training.
If you feel your child requires additional support for their emotional wellbeing or mental health, you are invited to bring your concerns to your child's class teacher. For more specific sign-posting or in-depth discussions, please feel free to book an appointment with Mrs Townsend or Mrs Bennett.
